Perhaps you, too, have lost some of your natural-born connection with feeling. Because our culture has exiled feeling in its pursuit of control, you haven’t had much choice about this. The strategies of control were most likely all that were offered to you, and if you hadn’t used them things could easily have gone far worse.
But the cost has been great:
Feelingwork restores feelingmind to its natural functioning.
Feeling does a magnificent job of synthesizing the many dimensions of awareness into a clear and reliable sense of guidance in any situation. When we rely primarily on rational control instead, we find ourselves going around in circles, using crude force to impose our will, or achieving ends that have no resonance with our authentic purpose.
Most people today have become functionally feeling-disabled in this way. In fact, my discoveries suggest that feeling disability is at the heart of the epidemic dysfunction we see in today’s world.
This situation creates a unique opportunity, however. Restoring the natural functioning of your feelingmind confers a strong advantage in all areas of life. A functioning feelingmind becomes almost like a superpower in this context because so few people have clear access to it.
More than that, though, the experience is fulfilling in and of itself. This fulfillment has its poignant moments. For example, after reviving a dimension of yourself which has lain dormant for most of your life, you might experience a sense of loss for what might have been had this part of you not been suppressed. Soon enough, though, you will bring your attention back to what is possible now.
It’s a little like being reunited with long-lost family members. You feel good, and right, and whole as you restore those strengths in yourself which disappeared so long ago. Reclaiming feeling as your birthright, life becomes more vibrant, more vital, more meaningful. By placing feeling at the center, every moment wakes up to the implicit thrill of being alive.
Another effect of restoring the natural functioning of your feelingmind? Everything else you do becomes significantly more effective. Because feeling — when it’s working well — provides information and guidance that your rational mind simply cannot offer, you gain strengths in relationships, business, learning, creativity, and lots more. Plus, your other activities to pursue your personal and professional growth and development yield better results, faster.
Bottom line: after a period of deep Feelingwork, you’ll enjoy a pervasive activation, the effects of which will ripple through all aspects of your life.
